mt: the early J-Hs did NOT have a pigtail fuse(located under the regular fuse box) like the later cars(don't have the info when they started that). As you know, U.K. cars did not require side light markers as the USA ones, so they ran both the negative and the POSITIVE wires for the rear side markers between the outer fender and the thin foam padding for the "U" channel in the very rear(need to remove the tail lights to get at it). Needles to say, the foam wears away and the steel edge grinds the wires causin a short. I and many other have drilled a hole in the center of the "U" channel and put a rubber grommet in as it should have been done from the beginning.
I have had to replace quite a few wiring harnesses that have melted all the way up to the foot well, where the bundle acts a heat sink.
