Hi guys, i can hear you sigh....another thread on wheels, but i need your help. There is this classic car shop in the Netherlands who very recently started importing Panasport wheels from Japan and reselling them. He sells them mainly for Triumph owners and carries the sizes: 15"x6 and 16"x7, but can deliver them for other cars as well. I asked him if he could get 15"x7 for the JH. He called the factory and the 15x7 seem an odd size for which a particular batch needs to be done, making them very expensive (up to Euro 380,= a piece!!!). Delivery time would then be around 12 weeks or so (not bad considering the DMS backorder). Insane, if you ask me. However the 15"x6 and 16"x7 are readily available in difference bolt patterns and backspaces but also at much more affordable prices since these are produced in real volumes. I am thinking of buying them over here, since the shipping cost (US to NL) on top of the already highly priced panasports would make this project a no go. But to be sure, I need some info: Question1: does anyone know what DMS sells the 15"x7 for?? Question2: what is the JH original bolt pattern, offset and backspace? I really need to know since this classic car shop is not knowledgeable about the JH and what would fit or not and i have no clew either... Question3: i know 15"x6 will fit the JH, but what about 16"x7 ? what tire size would possibly fit the 16"x7 without fauling the steering? Thanks and have a look at the picture featuring a TR with Panasports Attachment: normPict4.jpg (Downloaded 502 times) Last edited on 04-10-2006 10:26 am by Harkes |

Delta carries 15x6 on a semi-regular basis and I want to say they cost close to $200.00 each. The stock bolt-pattern is 4 x 4.000" or 4 x 101.6mm NOT 4 x 100mm which is extremely common. Offset for the stock wheels is 0.75" and Delta's 13x6 Panasports have a measured offset of ~5/8". As you are using the JHPS brake-kit, check to see if the spacers are necessary with Panasports. Another idea would be to have Greg get you a custom spacer with a more common bolt pattern and offset to match the wheels you want. My experience with R-compound 205/60R13, is that the steering effort was difficult at best on the street. However, I can never say I lost front-end grip on the track (back end grip was always my problem). Ask Russ if "Flash" runs his big 215 'shoes' on the street... For a street car, 205 is plenty of tire which means a 6" wheel is really all you need. I think the 15" look GREAT on 'Jasper', but here's the rub: a 205/60R13 is just about the same as a 205/50R15 and costs $25 less per wheel and $50 less per tire.

Thanks Judson, that is the specs i was looking for. So DMS sells the 15x6, just like the shop here in the netherlands. I shall check what they ask for these over here. It may be indeed the bolt pattern that makes the panasports so expensive. i agree with you 205 are enough for street. When i'd put 205 on front and back then i could swap them if necessary. And a street car mine is... One last: what about the 16"x7 wheels, would it fit the JH? (use with 205x40(?)x16?) or should i just stick with 15x6? Only reason for me to go for panasport over the stock is that i think they fit the car better and the larger 15" make it look better. I have the stock 13" rims with almost brandnew tires on them. So i will break the car in using the 13" stock rims then switch them for panasports. If i can get them over here for almost same price as DMS then i buy them here. Thanks erik

I'm not a huge fan of the ultra-low profile rubber that's gotten so popular in recent years. If you want to run Ferrari sized wheels & tires - buy a Ferrari! But seriously, the 205/50R15 is an extremely popular size, so cost and availablity make it very attractive. Also, consider your brake rotor size. 15" is pushing it, but I think 16" wheels may look a little strange with a 10" solid rotor.

Judson is right, and I would add the smaller wheels are lighter - read my reply on the other wheel thread. Light makes right. I can lift a panasport with 13" tire easily with one hand and mount it - it is a feather. Not so 15" and higher wheel/tire combos.

Judson, Ron, thanks for your replies. It makes my decision easy and clear. I will reconsider 13" panasports over the 15" and won't go even near 16". I do love the way JASPER looks though, so am still tempted to go for 15". Tire size will be 205 tops for all 4. cheers erik

Hi - I recently purchased a 74 JH, which already came equiped with 15 x 7 Panasports and new Yokohama 225/50R 15 on all corners. However, when turning in reverse, the front tires rub the wheel well. A local tire shop, quotted me $105 per Yoko tire (includes mounting, balancing, etc) for 205/50R to replace the fronts...seems fairly reasonable. Unfortunately, I do not know the Panasport offset and therefore do not know if the 205's will provide enough clearance. Any advise...205, spacers or leave it alone? Thanks - Bill

Thanx guys for the nice compliments regarding Jasper - I thought I'd chime in and say that running my Panasports with 205x50x15 Yokos I have no interference, rubbing anywhere - even on full lock. Love the wheels - the tires grip like crazy - all in all you can't go wrong - not for the purist perhaps but they make for a good looking addition to the Jensen Healey. James, does JASPER have the 15x6 or 15x7 panasports? Did you get them from Delta and do you know the offset? Last but not least: what does Delta sell them for? They look awesome! thanks, Erik

They are the 7" ones - Not sure of the offset - but Delta will only sell you ones that will actually fit ! They were $200 each - tire ran $80 each from http://www.tirerack.com I think Delta sells them now for $220 each and they are on backorder.
