Have read the posts regarding tire choices for 205/60 - 13's . It appears that the consensus is the Sumitomo HTR 200's....unfortunately they are NLA...called all the usual places, Tirerack, Vulcan, Online Tires etc. No Luck!!! Anyone have experience with "Nankang XR611 Toursport" , "Federal Formoza FD1", "Cooper Cobra GT" or the $$$ Vredestein Sprint Classic? .....or any other tire available in 205/60-13. Please advise..... Thanks in advance. Rob |

Rob, I did not get mine either. When I tried to call I was put on hold for an hour. They did not even email or call me to tell me I was not going to receive them. I did find some 185/70/13 in a T rating. I will keep looking. I will inform you if I find them. Regards, John |

I know this doesn't offer any help but this is the reason I went with 15" rims and tires last year when I bought some for my car. I didn't want to be in the postion of not being able to find tires anymore. That and the fact that the 15" rims look so much better on the car. Especially after having both on the car. Art |

Found these tires... http://www.performanceplustire.com/products/tires/searchType/searchBySize/tireSize/205_SLASH_60-13 Maybe one of these would work well for us. I apparently didn't get the Sumitomo tires I ordered either. |

Will a 215/50/r13 tire fit the stock wheels and fit the Jensen Healey without any interference? |
|||||||||

It will fit the wheels (R13 always fits on 13" wheels), and It shouldn't rub anywhere. BUT: I don't think you want to go to that dimension. You increase the RPMs by close to 8% compared to (what I believe is) stock 185/70 for any given speed. Since the gearing isn't exactly tall to begin with, it could be really annoying really quickly. According to European rules, it wouldn't be street legal either, max deviation in circumference is +-5%. Have a look at http://dekkalkulator.com/ to play with different tyre dimensions. -- Joachim |

After much deliberation I decided to go with Federal 595..... 205/60 13's http://www.federaltyres.com.au/tyres/high-performance/595 I purchased them from http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370364671519 (the usual disclaimers apply) These tires are the required standard for the "Legend" racing series http://www.uslegendcars.com/racing_series/ I recieved the tires within a week and will post my two cents worth after they are mounted and I have had time to drive them a bit. Thanks for everyones input....Rob |

I have decided to go with the stock 185/70's basiclly for the speed rating and I haven't had stock tires on the car since 1986 but for those interested RG & John tireeasy.com http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?dsco=135&cart_id=19388033.135.19194&s_p=Tires has at least more than 8 205/60T-13's in stock for delivery according to a rep on the phone that sounded a bit like an off shore call center they are T rated and raised white letter but they are 205/60's!! I guess we should be happy we have lived long enough to join the ranks of classic cars that can't find decent rubber. My Sumitomo 205/60-13 HTR 100's have served well over the last 7 years with incredible dry handling and truly awful wet handling. They never squeal at the limit and give great feedback. Performing gut wrenching runs through the twisties is their specialty. Thanks Koni and Aadco! Sorry cyclists! When the dew falls it's like piloting a motercycle on eggshells. Rain means certain death. |

I have had the pleasure over the past 2 years and 10 months to put 16,870 miles on the Set of Cooper Cobra's which came with 11602. They were about half gone when I got the car and are wear bar prone on all four at this point. The tread wear rating is 448 for these and they are probably quite old time wise. I do not think you can find them anywhere as Cooper doesn't make this size any longer. Which is to say that when it is wet the traction is very fun to play with. Once the rear end is loose in second and/or third gear controlled wheel spin can last for hundreds of yards depending on the hill your on. So eBay provided a set of PRO METER LL600 ALL-SEASON STEEL BELTED RADIAL's for $385 which is a good deal less than the Verdesian's. The PRO METER's are 400 on the thread wear number, "T" Speed rating and am looking forward to a new balanced set of tires with a fresh front wheel alignment. As I probably "jacked-up" the caster angle and toe set when I put Vaxhaul-Viva urethane bushings on the truss bars which I might add make a lot of noise when the front suspension is cycled and thus some inner wear has resulted on the Cobras. The Coopers are shot and got some 205/60-13 Pro Meters. They measure more like 197 rather than 205 on the 5.5 OEM wheels. Are 400+ tread wear and are quite comfortable. This combination weighs in at 30 lb. Attachment: WP_20160831_001.jpg (Downloaded 229 times) |

I just replaced my 13 * Aluminum wheels (not OEM) with VTO 15" rims and what a difference. WIth that said, I now have for sale very nice aluminum wheels with knock off spinners and all hardware with almost new (less than 500 miles) less that 5 months old. I have attached photos of the wheels and hardware with and without the car attached to them. Asking $250 for all 4 complete with hardware. Tires are 175-70R-13 and are in great almost new condition. For what it's worth...inasmuch as we do not race our Jensen Healeys, we just go to the Firestone store and they get a set of 13 inch tires the next day. They dry rot before we can wear them out anyway.....same on my Jensen Interceptor...I replaced the last set that looked just like new, but the sidewalls after eight years were beginning to show signs of aging...so we bought regular everyday tires and have no problems... I can understand going to 15 inch wheels and tires, but do not understand why any would buy the top of the line tires when they age out before they wear out...that is unless you drive the car every day...and that is a horse (or car) of another color.. |

13" tires: for those having trouble finding this size, here is a couple of places that do carry many 13" tires(cheap & "expensive"): Simple Tire: https://simpletire.com/catalog?width=185&ratio=70&rim=13 & Perfomance Plus: https://www.performanceplustire.com/products/ts:185-70-13:ty:Antique/ Belive it or not, the Pirelli CN36, our original tire, is now back in stock with a V rating instead of the H! Craig Wolfe just received a set and mine should be here in a few days. |

This thread about the difficulty of finding 13" tires is ten years old, they were hard to find back then I can't imagine it's gotten any easier since. This topic of 13" tires is not exclusive to the Jensen-Healey but also pops up on various other sites, TR7 for example. The '70s being the '70s they did a lot of goofy stuff for reasons largely unknown, including little tiny "13 wheels. It seems like that fad died off shortly thereafter which is probably why it's hard to find tires for those wheels. The funny thing is that because of it's design, longer, lower, wider, the Jensen-Healey is one of the very few cars that looks OK on 13" wheels. While most cars of the era with 13" wheels look like a raccoon crouching on it's tip toes. The obvious solution is of course bigger wheels, even if it's just 14" wheels, they're easier to get tires for and still pretty close to the original look. |

If you go for 15” wheels, 205/50R15 are still quite available. And you get a fifth spoke in the revolution wheels... :-) looks better in my opinion, never quite acquired the taste for four-spoke rims. Just don’t go overboard on the offset, I have ET5 rims and it is a bit heavy on the steering. ET10 would be a better choice. — Joachim |

Joachim, I'ts a matter of personal taste of course, but I like the 4 spoke wheels,(like Disco's), they're unique and look kinda cool. |
