Hello everyone.  Im in NYC and just bought a 1974 Jensen with 26k miles on it.  it has the usual problems like the rust on floorpan ans rockers and fenders.  I want to do a complete rebuild of the car but would like to meet up with people and see what going on and look for ideas.  Are there any meets anywhere close to NYC anytime soon?

Thanks,  Dave

Welcome to the fraternity!

There isn't really a big JH community here in the north-east. I'm a couple hours north of you in Albany, I know that we have a club member in Poughkeepsie, a couple in western and northern NY.  Not enough to really have a JH club. I'm a member of the local british car club here and have the only one in the club.

I will say though that the online presence of this board is one of the most valuable tools there is in helping you with questions and answers about all things JH. It was just about the only way I was able to get answers when I went through my restoration.

Hello Dave,

Welcome aboard.  There are a few of us that are not too far from you.  We have Adam in Poughkeepsie with a 74 JH, Carl in Salt Point (10 miles east of Poughkeepsie) with a 75 JH, me in Salt Point with two 74 JHs and a recent owner in Lagrangeville (near Poughkeepsie) that I have not met yet.  Carl, Adam and I get together to work on and drive our JHs and would welcome company if you are up this way.  Check out the JHP Photo Gallery, I believe pics of our cars are there.

Jim

Hi Dave,

A few months ago a few of us Jensen owners got together at my house on Long Island. There was a GT, 2 JH's and there was supposed to be an Interceptor but it wouldn't start :(   A few other local owners were interested but couldn't attend.

We're planning on doing it again in the spring and it would be great if you could make it.

Email me at ftkleiger@aol.com

Matt

Hi Jim,

This is Tracy Paulet in Lagrangeville with the orange '74 JH. Anytime you other N.Y. members get a chance to get together let me know. When I reached out to Adam just after I got my car home we were going to hopefully get together but as we know it is not that easy with kids at home. My wife is very understanding about me getting wheel time. I hav put almost 2,000 miles on it since last July.

Hoping your getting in some great spring drives like I have!

Tracy

I'm taking mine out of storage this weekend. My E-production car (MGB) will be done and ready for this season's racing  this weekend too. I'm still waiting on the Ford 5 speed conversion for my wife's TR6 to get here from England. So maybe there will be a free weekend to wheel my way downstate for some driving if you guys get together.

Let me know

Mitch Ware

Hi Dave  My Body Shop is in Bloomfield CT & I live in Hebron CT, both 2 1/2 hours or so from NYC. I restored 15851 and I understand that you will want to see other JHs as points of reference. There is another member in the next town over from me and I only got in contact with him when the car was 95% done! I relied heavily on taking tons of pics during disassembly, pics of other cars on the internet, Ebay and Delta. You're welcome to come up and see the car if you're this way or I could send you pics if you're having trouble with a particular area.  Good luck, Colin

Wow! another JH in the Albany/Schenectady area. I'm halfway in between in Niskayuna.

Hi Mitch  I visited Niskayuna a few times 6 or 7 years ago. I had a friend who worked at what I think was called Schenectady Electric (they had a lightning bolt as their logo). He was a neighbor of mine in the UK, and was relocated to St. Louis 3-4 years ago.  Colin

Bob:

What a great looking car.  13753 looks just like yours except for the rollbar and the hood fit.  How did you get that hood (bonnet) to fit so well?  Mine, along with  pictures of others I have seen, has great gaps here and there and mismatch along the fender contour.

Hi Tom

13902 may have decent hood alignment but struggles with driver side door/fender alignment. I guess that's each JH having its own quirks & personality.

Bob:

I had trouble with the door fit and it turned out to be that the car was bending.  The jump seat/package shelf at the juncture with the drive shaft tunnel was cracked from each corner in on about a 45 deg angle.  This obviously weakened the car a lot and was allowing it to flex.  I get goose bumps thinking what was going to happen when those two cracks met.  16971 (my current project) has the same problem.
