I am replacing some interior trim on my 73, it has the original rubber mats but there was nothing to insulate the trans tunnel? There a 2 brackets/guides? spot welded to the drivers side only? The bracket on the driver's side makes it quick and easy to center the console during assembly. But that's not from any official sources, just my $.02. I took mine off when I redid the interior so the carpet could fasten directly to the tunnel and not have that funky hollow underneath. Clinton |

the tabs hold a piece of 1/4 inch padded backing and the carpet. The carpet was glued to the backing and snug fit into place. I put a stick-on foil mat down on the tunnel first and then glued my carpet to the original backing and slipped it back in. The top edge is concealed by the centre console. I did not use the original padded backing elsewhere as it is a water trap and causes rust. hence the rotten floor in most original JH. |
