DOES ANYONE KNOW THE SIZE AND THREADS FOR THE BOLT THAT HOLDS THE BRAKE DRUM ON. I REPLACED THE WHEEL CYLINDERS AND FOUND THE BOLTS MISSING. DELTA DID NOT HAVE THEM. ARE THEY REALLY NECESSARY?
THANKS

It looks like it is a 1/4"-28.  I just ran a tap that size through the bolt hole in my '75 axle.
I am not sure about the length because my drums are not installed with any bolts.
You can get the needed length by measuring the depth of the drum and the axle mounting surface.
Looking at the parts catalog a washer was not used so it looks like a bolt length of around 1/2" would work.
My guess is that they are only needed to keep the drum from moving around until the wheel and lug nuts are torqued on.
After the wheel is installed the torque of the lug nuts will keep the drum in place.

My 74 has the holes but no bolts, and no threads to put them in, looks like after chassis 14600 they stopped using them.

Well, mine (16173) does have them threaded: 1/4-28 bolt, I believe it's a half inch length from memory.

And I agree: I don't think they are necessary, just keeps the drum in place when you remove the wheel.

If you do delete them, then don't be surprised if a drum falls off when you remove a wheel. It can happen. Just put it back.

Tim Engel
