I have been putting to gether my JH and tuning the motor. After reading some posts on oil I realized I needed to change mine. While draining my oil I noticed it was rather foamy and greenish looking. I wondered if I may have a blown head gasket or have a cracked block. Would there be another reason for the oil to look like this? Last edited on 09-10-2012 09:10 pm by chiromaster |

How's your coolant level? Fill a glass jar with the sludge and see if it separates. If it doesn't, I would fill with new oil and then see what happens. People put all kinds of weird aftermarket additives in there. Remember that the oil cooler and lines can't be drained without removal. Kurt |

It has been sitting in a jar for several days and doesn't appear to separate. My coolant level was low. I filled the radiator and changed the oil. I will run the engine this weekend and see what happens. |

The engine had been out for 9 years before i bought the car and put it in. I have only run the engine maybe 5 times for less than 5 min each time. The oli has a chemical smell as well. |

Do not run it for long before checking the oil again, but if you didn't disconnect and/or empty the oil cooler and lines, you should change, run two minutes, change again, and maybe even repeat that again to get all the gunk out. I think that the fact that it doesn't separate is actually a good sign, I read it that the oil is (at least) nine years old? If you lose coolant, OTOH, it could be rebuild time. If you lose coolant into the oil, and no oil gets into the coolant could mean that the liner-to-block seal is leaking on at least on cylinder. -- Joachim |

I see that and think of the color sea foam and then think of the oil additive called Sea Foam. Never used it so I don't know if it changes the color but I doubt it. That sure does not look good. Art |

The oil was new. The po noted that the engine had 5000mi on a rebuild for what that is worth. The oil has a heavy chemical smell. I will fire it up today and see what happens. |

Your Jensen obviously has subluxations ... You'll need to drive the car four times a week for four weeks, then three times a week for four weeks, then once a week ... FOR THE REST OF ITS LIFE. You need to address the cause, not the symptom. If you miss an oil change appointment, you'll need to make it up! Above down, inside out! Was Dr. Sid the po? Try Toftness. Open the hood and then rub the radiator while touching engine components. When you feel the disturbance you've located the subluxation .... |

Well, give us an update. Have you changed the oil again? Maybe internal manipulation of the coccyx ... use 20/50W oil on a gloved finger, insert in the "tail pipe" ... well, you get the idea. Then be prepared to replace the head gasket. We're all thinking that's the problem but didn't want to tell you. |
