Finally got my 1975 JH going but at idle the engine seems to run a little rough and it shakes. Also, I have some smoke coming out of the exhaust. When I set the timing I did it manually by turning the dizzy until it ran the best that it could. The main problem I have is the shaking and rough running.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

It's probably has a fouled plug or missing electrically.  try pulling the plugs and looking for a fouled plug. If you have stock points ignition the plugs will foul easily if mixture / timing aren't right.  Electronic ignition /  hotter spark is a worthwhile upgrade on this car.  Cars of this era prior to electronic ignition had to be tuned up with new plugs and points quite regularly. If and when you get it running on all four it may smoke even worse if the rings are shot.

good luck

Don't forget to balance the carbs. If not balanced, it will shake. Also, get hold of a timing light and verify the timing. The cheapest one will do, there is a timing scale by the pulley, so you don't need one with dialback timing.

And you may just be trying to run the idle too low. Leaking exhaust cam cover gasket will also make it smoke, the oil drips down on the headers and smokes almost immediately after startup.
