I have oil leaking at the exhaust cam front seal.  Is it necessary to remove the cam from the carrier to replace this or can it be replaced in place?

Either way, what is the process for replacing?

Best source for new seals?

Can be replaced with cam in place. Timing pulley must be removed, the round seal slipped over camshaft from front and gently tapped into place. Delta has or club store may have them.

The car was new to me so I had a mechanic who owned a JH do the job. He just used a J hook or needle nose plyers and pulled the old one out.

The parts catalogue has a good picture of how everthing fits together. I don't know if the repair manual decribes replacing cam seals.

The cam seal itself has a thin metal shell with an inner rubber part that is the seal. It is sort of like a fancy "O" ring.
