I didn't search the archives on this and I'll bet it's been covered, but here goes anyway. I'm thinking of spending some tax refund money on the J-type O/D unit offered on E-bay by some folks in New Zealand. With a discount offered by E-bay it would cost $875.00 including shipping. Would appreciate any thoughts, comments on this. Also how big a chore would it be to install such a unit. Thanks in advance. Dale

It has come up in the past.

IIRC you need a mainshaft from a Sunbeam/Hillman that came with the overdrive.

Thanks for the response. If the mainshaft needs to be replaced then I assume the tranny must come out. I was perusing the service manual last night and it semed to indicate the tranny could be removed without the clutch and bell housing. Am I halucinating?

That is correct, the transmission can be removed without removing the bellhousing.
