   Everyone has different goals for their car and their wallet.  Ultimately, one must decide how much time money and effort they want to invest in a particular solution and what marginal gain will be achieved. 
 
I actually sent the axles to Moser Engineering for machine work.  They turned the ridiculously large Toyota axle flange down so it fit my chosen 10-1/2" solid brake rotor and wheels.  During the process they also welded up the 6-lug pattern and drilled a 5-lug pattern for my rotors and wheels. 
 
The 3-link was chosen primarly for simplicity and it's turn-in characteristics.  I still need to fab a rear sway-bar, but not sure exactly where I'm going to put it! 
 
If you like the fabrication process, want to install rear disc brakes, have a need for different ratios, and an LSD; the Toyota or S10 solution is a great idea.  On the other hand, if you have a perfectly good JH rear axle, I'm sure you could better invest the time, money and effort into other parts of your car.
