light switch -what was jensen healey's original purpose position 1 = off position 2 = on -(my JH is lo beam and running lights) position 3 = on -(my JH is hi beam and running lights)

Position 2 should be running lights only; sounds like the inside copper contact is hitting the 3rd contact as well in the #2 position. Hi/Lo should be the for/aft movement of the switch. Maybe the previous owner broke the white nylon hi/lo piece(I've seen that many times) and rewired it for what you now have?
