I often get asked for replacement keys for both the ignition and the other one(doors, trunk, glove box), so here's a small list of aftermarket replacements.

IGNITION: Taylor X16; Ilco X50 AA3

DOORS/TRUNK/GLOVE BOX: Taylor X3 and X16 (again with the end cut down about 3/16"); Ilco 62FT F68YT

Hope this helps, bruce

FYI
If you want a plastic head ignition key, Moss Motors has British Leyland ignition keys available - the "MG" series works for the JH. It It just has the BL swirl on the head, not MG.

Thanks for that info;
If anyone has any other key makers that will work for our cars, please post that, as I am sure that will help many who just get one of our cars and need to make duplicates.

Does anyone know the key type for the GT glove box and trunk locker? It’s a small one sided key.

that key is labeled: HD49, made by DL(madein USA), so hope that helps

I just spent a rather "exhausting" search for HD49 by DM, and came up empty handed. ILCO has an HD49, but I do NOT know if that is the same. The site "KEYMATE" shows ONLY one side of that(the flat side) and not the other where the slots would be.
Since I am uncertain of where you would fined that, PLEASE, anyone with a GT please post what you have, as I only have the one aftermarket made by Mazurk.
Since both locks are easily removed, you might replace them with somethin else.
Sorry, but good luck

I’m going to pull the lock mechanism and see if I can get more info. I’m sure this was used on other British cars.

twincam: before taking out the lock, the correct key # according to the locksmith I just went to, said it is ILCO HD49, and there are NO SUBSTITUTES. Online at "Keymate" I need to order 10 blanks(minimum) plus shipping. Wait until I get them in to be sure, and then I can "resell" whatever I do not need(most of them). I was NOT able to find a "lone" one for sale, but maybe call locksmiths in your area to see if they have any(my locksmith said he would have to order it and shipping, blah, blah would be over $30, just for one!

Thank you! I’ll check with a couple of local locksmiths and see what I can find.

Well, I just bought 10 of the dominion HD 49’s key blanks off eBay. It’s a gamble, but I’ll only need 2. If they turn out to be correct and if anyone else needs some, I’ll be more than happy to forward them on.
