Haven't seen any new conversations about finding a new fuel tank recently. Anybody found a suitable replacement? I had my old tank repaired and coated at a radiator shop and it still leaks. Does any one know if I can just recoat again? Martin Robey lists one on their site, anybody tried that?

POR15, KBS, Mastercoat ( http://www.masterseriescoatings.com/index/products/primer/ ) will work just fine even on heavily pitted and "holey" tanks. They are easy to use so you can do it yourself. Not sure what your radiator shop did but they should certainly guarantee it. I've seen POR even fill up "quarter" size holes(putting tape on the back for leveling) with no problems. If the leak is around the sending unit flange, using Permatex #2 or equivalent will seal that up fine

Thanks. Do you use the mastercoat as a primer then POR? What is KBS?

Before I would do anything myself,I would first DEFINITELY call the radiator shop to see if they could redo the work, and if they don't, at least find out what products they used to seal your tank. Undoing the current coating that is inside will make this job much harder. The 3 companies I mentioned above all do "rustproofing". POR15 is for gas tank and outercoat, Mastercoat for outer surfaces(not sure if they make an internal gas tank sealer). There are a couple of sources for new tanks if the repair doesn't work out (or you feel like spening the money). I was looking at this issue a couple of years ago and this is what I found: One is the guy who advertises on ebay. He's in Southern California and makes tanks for the JH in both steel and aluminum. His prices seem to vary ($400-500) but there were mixed reviews of his produts (quality issues) as reported here on this forum.The posts are somewhere under "Fuel Stuff" if you want to read, but I can't see having an internet/telephone argument with someone hundreds or thousands of miles away if there's a problem. The second is Axeminster Panel Specialists in the UK. This is a one man shop that produces top quality aluminum products of all sorts with much of his business coming from replacement and custom tanks. It took a few months to get mine as he keeps fairly busy, but it was well worth the wait. It's beautifully crafted and is now the centerpiece of the trunk. It was a bit pricey at the time ($700+ with shipping) but with the drop in the English pound the price should now be on par with the guy in SoCal. I just checked his website and I no longer see the JH as an option, but I'd ask anyway as he's made a number of them in the past. You wouldn't be disappointed. I bought an aluminum fuel tank that was new from this seller on eBay and I was fairly happy with the result. I did have a very small pinhole leak in the side of the tank and I may have caused it. I had it repaired at a speciality weld shop and was charged $40. I think that there is a very good chance that it may not neak at all, but I would check next time using water or low air pressure and soap. Here is a link to the site. Thanks all for your help. I also contacted Martin Robey and they said they are getting ready for a new production run of JH tanks made from aluminum, in about 3-4 weeks. No idea of price yet, here is the web site: keith.jackson@martinrobey.com
