New to me 1974 Jensen Healey, Vin# 19628, Engine# B74 12 10696 Looks to be original paint, no obvious rust, 5 speed and Dellortos DHL 45C. Car idles rough but dies when trying to take off. I just noticed this morning that the carburetors are barely tightened down, and other bolts are loose as well. Lock washers are not compressed. This is a project and I have a lot to learn. |

Congrats on your acquisition I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. My VIN is 19661 so we're pretty close. I think you'll find it to be roomy and comfortable and will outperform it's contemporaries like 914, TR6, Fiat 124, TR7 and will even stay with a TR8. Good luck and remember this is a great resource for any future problems. |

Thank you noomg, I suspect I will be asking many questions in my pursuit to get this car running and back on the road. I have a tattered shop manual that I'm perusing and a list of parts that will need to be ordered. |

Unfortunately the workshop manual from the factory is very bare bones so while you can find one in better condition there is no comprehensive manual like a Bentley's available. Also if you haven't already I'd recommend joining the JHPS. |

Welcome. For information, the DHL45C Dellorto carbs were not standard for the JH. Original were Zenith-Stromberg. The Dells have a special way of being tighten. The lock washers should not be compressed all the way. The Lotus 907 engine is an interference engine. Meaning if the belt breaks, serious damage will be done. Do you know the history of the car? When was the belt last changed? If you don't know, do not run the engine until you put on a new belt. Rough running could be carbs, timing, electrical. Most likely a combination of all three. Where are you located? Maybe someone is near you that might be able to help. |

Hi Art, You are correct the Dellortos are not standard. I also learned that what I thought are lock washers are no, but springs. There are other loose bolts on the car that I am addressing. I just pulled the plugs. the rear two are rich and the front two are lean. The car has the Crane Cams XR3000 ignition module. I believe it has a new belt, but that is next on my list. The cam gears look a little worn so I may be buying a new set of gears. |
