Hi all, I am looking to purchase what looks to be a Jensen Healey MKII but I am a bit confused as to how to interpret the engine number (taken from the back end of the block). It reads as B7403 6197 with a substantial gap between the 2 sets of numbers. Also, the zero in 7403 is not fully stamped, so could possibly be a 9. I thought the engine numbers are only 4 digits, hence my question. Appreciate any guidance that can be provided

Also found the number BB107 on the head. Is this meaningful information ? If so, what should I glean from that number ?

David, That B74 identifies the motor as a '74 which has the improved rear seal the earlier motors B73 used a rope seal which could be problematic (leaks). The MkII is easily identifiable from the MkI, it has rubber bumpers, wood trimmed interior, and all but the early ones have a 5spd.

As I understand it, B7403 means the engine was built the third month of 1974, the 6197 is the four digit engine number as you stated.
