Pete's wife passed away last fall and I sent a donation in memorial to her favorite Charity. I learned that the Jensen East group sent also a donation from the event seed fund. I di receive an acknowledgment. Then I learned that Pete died in December. I was shocked. Does anyone know any particulars of his death, of what and exactly when. Was it sudden or had he been ailing, too? His "business" of specialty items for JH's might or might not be continuing with his son handling it. Anyone know about that? Or the disposition of his yellow JH???? Frank Schwartz

Far out, what a shock. I bought a few of Pete's Kits; they always did as promised and he was generous with advice too. Vale Pete Bahr

I had very good experience with Pete and his kits. I have four of them on my car. I thoroughly enjoyed our conversations. Our Community will miss him.

Very sad to hear this. I have a few of his parts on my car, have been very pleased with them. Hopefully someone will be able to continue his parts line? -- Joachim

Hi all, I'm Matt, Pete's youngest son. I'm just cleaning up a few loose ends on his behalf. I know it's been a few years since his passing, but I thought I'd reply real quick and say thanks for the condolences. I know the impact he had on the JH community. I had hoped to continue that into the next generation but sadly, Yelodog met her demise last summer in a rear-end collision. Dad's passing was sudden, and happened just two months after mom passed away. There was never enough time for him to transfer his knowledge of Pete's Kits on to me, so sadly the store is closed. I've been offloading his spare parts inventories, so feel free to reach out to me if there is anything specific you need. mattbahr@verizon.net. All the best to those who knew him.

All - YeloDog is alive and well and living in Warsaw, Poland. Had her rebuilt and painted over the last 4 years. Let her into the hands of a rally driver today and jeez, she tore around the track. All is well! https://photos.app.goo.gl/n1R4aigL1FY1GZxi8

Thank you for posting this. Very nice documentation. Great to see Yelo Dog alive and well. Looks beautiful! I was fortunate to meet Matt, Pete Bahrs son, and hear the story of Yelo Dog and I aquired most of the spares for use on my car. I feel it links my car a little bit to the Famous Yelo Dog. I'm so happy that you saved it and it lives on. Well done.

Very nice rebuild! Hope all is well and want to thank you for saving another one! One thing I noticed that could easily be changed is that corrugated hose for the top radiator. If the spiral steel insert has not been removed, the eventual rusting of it will "sandblast" the water pump face in front of the impeller teeth, ruining it fairly quickly. Happy driving, bruce

Michael, That's a heck of a photo album. Thanks for sharing. YeloDog was/ is a special car. Unfortunately, it got crunched in a way that a lot of cars wouldn't have come back from. But you stepped in, bought the car, and restored it. Thanks for sticking with the project, and bringing YeloDog back. I've followed your posts, detailing your progress with the project. It's been a journey. Thanks for taking us along for the ride. Regards, Tim Engel

Tim. Not sure if you are still checking in from time to time. More YeloDog news. Previously it was a body rebuild, head off as it was leaking coolant, paint and a new exhaust with silencer. Following that engine adjustment I always felt that the car was still too noisy, too smokey, not burning fuel correctly and the gearbox was simply uncomfortable. So.....Just finished replacing the Weber 45s with the Jenvey 40 electronic fuel injection and swapping out the Getrag 5-speed for a 6-speed Lexus R160 box with hydraulic clutch. Gear changes are now a joy! Internally updated the cockpit with leather seats, leather centre console, leather visors and leather door cards. Why......I sold Red Sloth. Yet to be done is carpet the trunk, update the decals around the heater and silver trim around the dials, a new mohair/canvas roof and finally the vinyl Jensen Healey along the sills. The comment from the tuner was that the carbs would be good for 230/240HP (which is what Pete documented the last time he visited the Dyno. The current setup is If the link works, hear the car on the Dyno....music. And if course I doubt that I'll ever pass 4000 rpm but it's been a journey, a journey that start back in 73 when a Mr Lind bought the car new and 10 years later sold it to Pete Bahr... https://photos.app.goo.gl/HxSLZtvtTRMs9fUH6

Hi Red Eric https://photos.app.goo.gl/3kdWxSSegTqZHrs16 This doesn't explain everything. But....the W58 5-speed Toyota box is now quite expensive, while the J160 Lexus is much cheaper and good for 300+ HP. That said, when starting out we thought it would be much simpler. Shortening the drive shaft is the easy bit. But that's where it stops. The top of the Getrag bell housing has to be used with the base of the J160 bellhousing - so this involves aluminium welding. We sent this out to a specialist. The hydraulic release fork on the J160 bell housing is on the wrong side for LHD cars so you have to cut out a trap door - no big shakes. We then prepared a mounting point for the slave cylinder but at the end of the day I don't there was space inside the engine bay what with the exhaust manifold. Mating the pedals to the hydraulic clutch is also a challenge as you need to find a place for the slave cylinder - eventually we found space in between the walls that make up the fire wall. I don't have pictures but I can get under the bonnet and show you. The slave cylinder came from a Honda or Nissan. It is small but does the required. In short, chopping up the Bell Housings was the hard part and realising that a trap door/hole for the hyrdaulic release fork was needed - but it works. Is it cheaper than buying a W58 amnd getting a kit - who knows. I paid about $700 for the J160, and probably $1000 for the hassle. I sold the 5-speed Getrag without the bell housing for $500.
