early 73 I am working on now, I find no relay...very strange. Can anyone tell me more about why there is none on the car...and should I add one?

Maybe I am wrong, but the 74 JHs of both my son and daugher have a starter relay up on the left where the two flasher relays are and the seat belt control unit. On this early 73 I am working on now, I find no relay...very strange. Can anyone tell me more about why there is none on the car...and should I add one? Thanks
