Latest on Rusty the car.

I have completed the interior at long last. The center stack took me quite a while to get in place, as I had to install the radio, wire it, and then get the whole thing to fit, which it didn't. Grr.

I finally pulled much of the dash apart, and slipped a bottle jack under it, then jacked the dash up to get the needed room. After I pushed, pulled, and tugged the stack finally slipped into place, then I lowered the dash and buttoned everything up. Why it would not slip into place I haven't a clue, but it did finally fit.

I dinked with the glovebox until I was blue in the face, and it still would not latch properly. I even used the striker plate from an Acura to replace that piece of @#*!! original. It now latches, but only if I press lightly on the face of the 'box when closing it. Doh!

I installed my new cigarette lighter (the old one was toast) and wired in a fuse for it. It comes perilously close to grounding out on the transmission tunnel, and since I did not want my wiring to burn up I installed an inline fuse. Bought a used ashtray as the old one was missing its guts and the mastic looked like hell.

My engine is STILL at the machine shop. The machinist finally asked me for the specifications of the engine (torque settings, clearances, etc) since he had no references that listed Lotus or Jensen Healey, much less the 907 engine. <sigh> I had to give him my head since the valve spring pockets are not deep enough to accommodate the lift of the new cam. The pockets only need to be deepened by about 0.060" to prevent the springs from stacking solid. He found four of my valves were bent, so I am guessing that a cam belt failed at some point in the engine's past.

Rebuilt my water pump with the Robey kit. Fit like a glove, so I have a good water pump. Everything of concern has now been rebuilt. Oil pump, water pump, alternator, starter, carburetors. If I get the motor back before Christ returns maybe I can drive the car. =:-o

2-1/2 years and counting. Rusty is coming along.

Cheers,

Vance
