 Well that is interesting, I could see them "starting" as many cars as possible to avoid '75 regs, maybe just punching out a bunch of data plates, but at some point(who knows when)they would have had to start building '75s since the late models had smog equipment(air pump, cat converter, etc.)on them.

As to how much fudging they could get away with I guess that depended on the manufacturer, the country, the state, and when they were actually sold. As an example I bought my TR7 new from the dealer in March '80, it is stamped as Aug '79 and registered as a '79.
