I was watching this video(rebuilding hydraulic power steering gear boxes for my 1992 FORD E250 XL, 5.8L) when this came up.

they talk about a 2 piece steering shaft which is ALMOST IDENTICAL to the ones in our J-Hs. Take a look if you don't have a clear picture in your head--they even have the two white plastic injected moldings like ours. The difference is ours don't get the "slop" that the one in the video shows
