Another thing to consider is interest in the vehicle or it's desirability, which may or may not have to do with performance or original price. For example take the Spitfire, if you go to the Spitfire>6 category on the Triumph Experience web site you'll find a beehive of activity. One topic "Your Best Joke", had over a thousand posts and it's not even related to the car. On the other hand this topic, which I find rather interesting, generated only six responses.

Even back in the period from '73 to '80, when all the Jensen-Healeys that were going to be on the road, were on the road I rarely saw one and I'm in SoCal. The Spitfire on the other hand was built from '62 to '80, and I remember seeing them all over the place. It's hard to desire a car that you don't know exists. Maybe that's one of the reasons why a car significantly inferior in every way to the Jensen-Healey is now worth about two to three times as much.
