I'd be interested in knowing exactly where you drilled that little lever on the latch assembly..do you have a measurement or template??

Here's a close up of the mechanism that 'clamps' the boot (trunk) lid down, unbolted so that you can get a better look. You'll see I drilled a hole about 7mm from the rear uppermost corner of the release paddle as shown:
