Well, the voltage to the coil runs through the tach...I, (opinion) suspect the coil...and is there a resistor in the circuit? If so, make sure it is correct..and that the red and black leads from the Pertronix unit are on the coil and not on the resistor... Now that sounds odd, but the Pertronix must be on both sides of the coil. If you have another coil, try it and see what happens...It seems obvious that something is breaking down and my first thought would be the coil..and second..the resistor... Let us know what you find.
