Also, are the clamps still secure and tight?

I would really clean the boot and see if you can see any cracks or holes. If it's an original boot it's probably just finally cracked. When cleaned it will most likely have a flat shine. Give it a while and look to see where the shiny oil is appearing. Also, are the clamps still secure and tight?
