 Forty years back we bought a Mk II (not Tupperware console), and it came with the rubber insert. My impression is that the metal was a later change. My current early '74 Mk II has rubber, my previous '75 had metal.

Likely there would have been some overlap around the time of the change. Heck, the Mk II we bought forty years ago had one of the troublesome early engines; records show that out of the blue they stuck early engines (I guess were laying around) in two sequential cars, even though the improved engine was by then the norm.
