 Thanks.  I got it out.  I had done this before and there was already some tearing in the corner, and I have noticed this in other cars.  Seems very few don't have the tears.
I had to install a used turn/wiper unit and I am replacing the wood so both seemed a good thing to do.
But does anybody have a line on that Lucas instrument dimmer?  I think I broke mine trying to get the knob off.  Not the knob, but pot.  The post came out out at the last minute and i can hear some stuff rattling around inside.
