Hi guys.  I got a rebuilt head that looks to be in good shape from someone who didn't know much about it.  Now, I am not sure about how to set the valve clearances.  I thought maybe I could measure the clearances without a shim in and then do the math to figure the size shim I needed.  However, it occurred to me that this would not take into account the amount the shims sit down into the spring retainers.  Is this a standard depth?  Or is there some other way I should be doing this?  Or do I need to get a machine shop involved?

Thanks
