 The lower gear ratios seem to work just fine in this application. Here are the various gear ratios as a comparison:

Ford T9 .......... 3.36 .... 1.81 .. 1.26 ... 1.00 ... 0.80
Stock JH 4spd . .3.11 ... 1.99 ... 1.29 ... 1.00
